Possible Causes:



Record any related trouble codes in memory
 
PCM has failed (replace it and reprogram the new PCM)
 
Perform the Security System (Passlock) Relearn Procedure

PCM Internal Performance Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Record any related trouble codes in memory
 
Reprogram the PCM and recheck for any related trouble codes
 
If it resets, the PCM may have to be replaced
 
PCM has failed (replace it and reprogram the new PCM)
 
Perform the Security System (Passlock) Relearn Procedure

Possible Causes:



Generator 'L' circuit is open, shorted to ground or to power (B+)

Possible Causes:



ISS assembly connector is damaged or loose
 
ISS circuit is open, shorted to ground or to power (Intermittent)
 
ISS wiring routed too close to Generator, spark plug wires or any other possible cause of EMI/RFI interference
 
ISS is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed

Input Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



ISS assembly connector is damaged or shorted
 
ISS circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
ISS is damaged (sensor resistance is from 800-1800 ohms)
 
PCM has failed

Brake Switch Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



Brake switch stuck in open position or brake switch circuit open
 
Brake switch power circuit is open (check the STOP 15A fuse)
 
Stop lamp switch is damaged, out of adjustment or it has failed
 
TCM has failed

Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



OSS connector is damaged, open or shorted
 
OSS circuit is open, shorted to ground or to system power
 
OSS reluctor air gap is excessive or out of alignment
 
OSS reluctor is damaged, or the OSS assembly has failed
 
PCM has failed

Output Shaft Speed Sensor Signal (Intermittent)

Possible Causes:



OSS connector is damaged, open or shorted (intermittent fault)
 
OSS circuit is open, shorted to ground or to power (intermittent)
 
OSS reluctor is damaged, or the OSS assembly has failed
 
PCM has failed

Brake Switch Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:



Brake switch stuck in -closed- position
 
Brake switch circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
Stop lamp switch is damaged, out of adjustment or it has failed
 
TCM has failed

Engine Speed Circuit To TCM Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Perform the Diagnostic System Check for the PCM
 
PCM has failed

Transaxle - No First Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any Shift Solenoid performance codes are set (P0781, P0782 or P0783 for 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on"), fix the highest gear code first. A gear stuck "on" will cause a loss of 1st Gear.
 
End cover 1st gear hub seal rings may be damaged
 
1st clutch piston may be leaking
 
Input shaft feed tube to end cover may be blocked
 
Servo leak, passage blocked (no oil pressure to 1st gear clutch)
 
1st gear spray failed or 1st gear clutch plates may be worn
 
1st gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 
TSB 99-07-30-018 contains a repair procedure for this code
 
TSB 03-07-30-008 contains a repair procedure for this code
 

Trouble Code: P0732



Transaxle - No Second Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any shift solenoid performance codes are set (P0782 or P0783 for 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on"), fix the highest gear code first. A 3rd or 4th gear stuck "on" will cause a loss of 2nd Gear.
 
3rd or 4th Gear Shift solenoid sticking will cause 3rd or 4th gear to be applied from a standing stop and cause loss of 2nd Gear
 
2nd gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 
TSB 99-07-30-018 contains a repair procedure for this code
 

Trouble Code: P0733



Transaxle - No Third Gear Available

Possible Causes:



If any shift solenoid performance codes is set (P0783 for 4th gear stuck "on"), fix that trouble code first. A 4th gear stuck "on" condition can cause a loss of 3rd gear, a loss of 4th gear, and the TCC may be stuck in "on" position.
 
4th Gear Shift solenoid sticking will cause 4th gear to be applied from a standing stop and cause a loss of 3rd Gear.
 
3rd gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0734



Transaxle - No Fourth Gear Available (AF23-5)

Possible Causes:



Delivery tube busing in the output shaft miss-located or loose
 
Plugged or restricted oil passages or faulty clutch plates
 
Piston seal cut or damaged
 
Output shaft check ball is missing
 
Output shaft seal, Output shaft or 4th clutch 'O' rings damaged
 
4th gear shift solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0741



TCC System Malfunction (AF23-5, VT25-E)

Possible Causes:



Control valve body may need removal for inspection (inspect for a sticking lockup relay valve, lockup control valve, TCC check valve, secondary regulator valve, solenoid relay valve or a sticking TCC lockup PC solenoid valve assembly)
 
Inspect for problems in the torque converter assembly, input shaft and fluid pump stator shaft assembly
 
ISS sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
Stuck 3-4, 4-5 shift solenoid valve, or stuck U1 shift valve
 
Transmission may be damaged and require replacement
 
TCM turns the Transmission Protection Mode -on-
 

Trouble Code: P0742



TCC System Malfunction (AF23-5, VT25-E)

Possible Causes:



Control valve body may need removal for inspection (inspect for a sticking lockup relay valve, lockup control valve, TCC check valve, secondary regulator valve, solenoid relay valve or a sticking TCC lockup PC solenoid valve assembly)
 
Inspect for problems in the torque converter assembly, input shaft and fluid pump stator shaft assembly
 
ISS sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
Transmission may be damaged and require replacement
 
TCM turns the Transmission Protection Mode -on-

Possible Causes:



PCS (solenoid) is damaged or it has failed
 
Pressure regulator it has failed (take the valve body apart to inspect for this problem and replace any necessary parts)

A/T 1-2 shift solenoid is stuck "off"
