Removal & Installation



2.2L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the clamp a the air cleaner assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the push pin attachment from the outlet resonator/duct assembly to support bracket.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the clamp at the throttle body assembly.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) fresh air vent hose at the cam cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly.
    NOTE
    Cover the throttle body with a shop towel. Using air, clean the base of the throttle body to prevent debris from entering the manifold when the throttle body is removed.


    NOTE
    Cover the throttle body opening with a shop towel and use the shop air to remove any dirt at the base of the throttle body.

  17. Disconnect the electrical connector at throttle body.

  19. Remove the throttle body bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the throttle body.
    NOTE
    The throttle body-to-manifold gasket is not reusable.

  23. Remove the gasket and discard.
    NOTE
    Cover the intake manifold opening with a shop towel whenever the throttle body is removed to prevent foreign material entry.

  25. Block the intake manifold opening with a clean shop towel to prevent dirt from entering.

To install:

  1. Remove the shop towel from the throttle body opening.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body assembly and bolts.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the throttle body-to-intake manifold bolts to 89 inch lbs (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the throttle body electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Position the outlet resonator/duct assembly into position.
  12.  
  13. Connect PCV fresh air vent hose assembly.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the clamp at throttle body assembly.
  16.  
  17. Position the outlet resonator/duct assembly up with support bracket and install the push-pin.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the clamp at the air cleaner assembly.
  20.  
  21. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.  
  25. Turn the ignition ON for one minute while the Engine Control Module (ECM) automatically relearns throttle position.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the clamp a the air cleaner assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the push pin attachment from the outlet resonator/duct assembly to support bracket.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the clamp at the throttle body assembly.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) fresh air vent hose at the cam cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly.
    NOTE
    Cover the throttle body with a shop towel. Using air, clean the base of the throttle body to prevent debris from entering the manifold when the throttle body is removed.


    NOTE
    Cover the throttle body opening with a shop towel and use the shop air to remove any dirt at the base of the throttle body.

  17. Disconnect the electrical connector at throttle body.

  19. Remove the throttle body bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the throttle body.
    NOTE
    The throttle body-to-manifold gasket is not reusable.

To install:

  1. Remove the shop towel from the throttle body opening.

  3. Install the throttle body gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body assembly and bolts.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the throttle body-to-intake manifold bolts to 89 inch lbs (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the throttle body electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Position the outlet resonator/duct assembly into position.
  12.  
  13. Connect PCV fresh air vent hose assembly.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the clamp at throttle body assembly.
  16.  
  17. Position the outlet resonator/duct assembly up with support bracket and install the push-pin.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the clamp at the air cleaner assembly.
  20.  
  21. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.  
  25. Turn the ignition ON for one minute while the Engine Control Module (ECM) automatically relearns throttle position.
  26.  

2.4L Engine

WARNING
Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result. Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.


WARNING
Do not use any solvent that contains Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). This solvent may damage fuel system components.


NOTE
DO NOT prop open the throttle blade with the ignition key in the ON position as it may set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC).
  6.  
  7. Remove the throttle body bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the throttle body .
  10.  
  11. Inspect the throttle body gasket, and replace if necessary.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body. Tighten the bolts to 89 in. lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the ETC.
  4.  
  5. Install the air cleaner outlet duct
  6.  

3.0L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the clamp at the air cleaner assembly and throttle body assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove attachment bolts from the outlet resonator/duct assembly to support bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly.
  8.  
  9. Cover the throttle body opening with a shop towel and use shop air to remove any dirt at the base of the throttle body.

  11. Disconnect the electrical connector at throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) fresh air hose at throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the purge and PCV vacuum lines.
  16.  
  17. Clamp off the hoses to avoid leaking coolant on engine.
  18.  
  19. Remove the coolant hoses at throttle body.
  20.  
  21. Remove the throttle body bolts.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body.
    NOTE
    Cover the intake manifold opening with a shop towel whenever the throttle body is removed to prevent foreign material entry.


    NOTE
    Block the intake manifold opening with a clean shop towel to prevent dirt from entering.

To install:

  1. Remove the shop towel from the throttle body opening.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body gasket.
    WARNING
    Use care when tightening the throttle body bolts. Manifold damage will result if overtorqued.

  5. Install the throttle body assembly and bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install the throttle body bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the throttle body-to-intake manifold bolts to 66 inch lbs. (7.5 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Attach the hoses to the throttle body assembly and unclamp.
  12.  
  13. Connect the PCV fresh air and vacuum hoses.
  14.  
  15. Connect throttle body electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the outlet resonator/duct assembly into position.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the clamp at the throttle body assembly.
  20.  
  21. Position the outlet resonator/duct assembly to support bracket and install the bolts.
  22.  
  23. Tighten the outlet resonator/duct assembly-to-support bracket bolts 6-cylinder to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Tighten the clamp at the air cleaner assembly.
  26.  
  27. Connect negative battery cable.
  28.  
  29. Tighten the battery terminal bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  30.  
  31. If the throttle body assembly has been replaced, and automatic relearn procedure must be completed by the Engine Control Module (ECM):  
    NOTE
    Do not depress the accelerator pedal assembly during this procedure.

    1. To complete this relearn procedure, turn the ignition to RUN position for one minute.
    2.

3.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly, as follows:
    1. Loosen clamp at the air cleaner assembly and the front outlet duct seal assembly.
    2.  
    3. Remove the attachment bolt from the support bracket.
    4.  
    5. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly.
    6.

  5. Cover the throttle body opening with a shop towel and use shop air to remove any dirt at the base of the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the MAP sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the throttle control connector at throttle body.

  11. Clamp off the hoses to avoid leaking coolant on engine.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiring harness bracket bolt from the throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the coolant hoses at throttle body (4).

  17. Remove the throttle body fasteners.
  18.  
  19. Remove the throttle body.
    WARNING
    Cover the intake manifold opening with a shop towel whenever the throttle body is removed to prevent foreign material entry.

  21. Block the intake manifold opening with a clean shop towel to prevent dirt from entering.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Remove the shop towel from the throttle body opening.
  2.  
  3. Install a new throttle body gasket.
    WARNING
    Use care when tightening the throttle body bolts. Manifold damage will result if over torqued.

  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body assembly and fasteners.
  6.  
  7. Install the throttle body fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 16 inch lbs (22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Attach the coolant hoses to the throttle body assembly and unclamp.
  10.  
  11. Install the wiring harness bracket bolt. Tighten the bolt to 89 inch lbs (10 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the MAP sensor connectors.
  14.  
  15. Connect throttle body electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the outlet resonator/duct assembly into position. .
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. If the throttle body assembly has been replaced, perform the idle learn procedure as follows:
    1. Install a scan tool.
    2.  
    3. Diagnose and repair any DTCs before proceeding with this procedure.
    4.  
    5. Ensure that all electrical loads and accessories are OFF .
    6.  
    7. Turn OFF the air conditioning.
    8.  
    9. Ensure that the vehicle is in PARK or NEUTRAL .
    10.  
    11. Turn ON the ignition.
    12.  
    13. Clear the DTC information with the scan tool.
    14.  
    15. Wait 5 seconds and start the engine.
    16.  
    17. Operate the engine with no load at 3,000 RPM until the ECT reaches 194°F (190°C).
      NOTE
      If the engine cooling fan turns ON during the idle portion of this procedure, do not include the fan run time in the total idle time.

    18.  
    19. Let the engine idle with the THROTTLE CLOSED and the engine cooling fan OFF , for a total of 5 minutes.
    20.  
    21. The PCM has a new learned idle position.

  5. Remove the outlet resonator/duct assembly, as follows:
    1. Loosen clamp at the air cleaner assembly and the front outlet duct seal assembly.

  11. Disconnect the throttle control connector at throttle body.
