Removal & Installation



Before servicing any vehicle, please be sure to read the precautions section, which deals with personal safety, prevention of component damage, and important points to take into consideration when servicing a motor vehicle.

  1. Clean the clutch fluid reservoir cap and area around the cap.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clutch fluid reservoir cap and remove enough brake fluid to clear a passage to the clutch master cylinder.
  4.  
  5. Remove the clutch pedal retainer.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal assembly, 1st design.

  9. Remove the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal assembly, 2nd design.
    WARNING
    Avoid spilling brake fluid onto painted surfaces, electrical connections, wiring, or cables. Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces and cause corrosion to electrical components. If any brake fluid comes in contact with painted surfaces, immediately flush the area with water. If any brake fluid comes in contact with electrical connections, wiring, or cables, use a clean shop cloth to wipe away the fluid.

  10.  
  11. Place a shop towel under the clutch master cylinder in order to catch any fluid loss.
  12.  
  13. Using a pick tool on the strut tower side, disconnect the clutch line from clutch master cylinder.
  14.  
  15. Cap the reservoir and hydraulic lines in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
    WARNING
    Do not damage the pushrod boot when sliding it through the front of the dash.

  16.  
  17. Remove the clutch master cylinder mounting nuts and slide the clutch fluid reservoir up and out.
    NOTE
    Do not damage the pushrod boot when sliding it through the front of the dash.

  18.  
  19. Uncap the fluid reservoir and hydraulic lines.
  20.  
  21. Slide the clutch fluid reservoir into the mounting slot and install the clutch master cylinder mounting nuts. Tighten the nuts to 17 ft. lb (23 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the clutch master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal assembly, 1st design.
  24.  
  25. Install the clutch pedal retainer.
  26.  
  27. Install the clutch master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal assembly, 2nd design.
  28.  
  29. Remove the shop towel and discard into a suitable container.
  30.  
  31. Connect the clutch line to the clutch master cylinder.
  32.  
  33. Connect the clutch master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal.
  34.  
  35. Install the clutch pedal retainer, nuts and bolts.
  36.  
  37. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system
  38.
