Windshield Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Front



  1. Make sure the wipers are in the park position. If not, turn the ignition key to the ON position and operate the wipers one time. Turn the wiper switch to the off position and then turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arms from the wiper pivots.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, remove the upper clips from the plastic windshield wiper linkage cover.
  6.  
  7. Using two small suitable prytools, carefully remove the lower panel clips from the wiper linkage cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 wiper pivot trim covers, and then remove the plastic wiper linkage cover.
  10.  
  11. Using a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the four wiper assembly mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiper motor electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  14.  
  15. Carefully remove the wiper motor and linkage assembly from the center cowling.
  16.  
  17. Make a reference mark with touch up paint or a suitable marker between the motor pivot shaft and the pivot arm.
  18.  
  19. Using a 12mm wrench, remove the pivot arm mounting nut, and then tap the arm with a suitable plastic handle of a screwdriver. It may take several taps to loosen the link arm. Once the arm is loose, lift it off of the pivot shaft.
  20.  
  21. Using a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the three bolts that mount the motor to the bracket assembly.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal. If the wiper motor is being replaced, cycle the motor one time to make sure it is in the park position. To do this proceed as follows:
    1. Before installing the wiper motor onto the linkage assembly, plug the wiper electrical connector onto the wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Secure and place the wiper motor such that it can be operated safely and will not contact a painted surface.
    4.  
    5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
    6.  
    7. While the ignition switch is in the ON position, turn the wiper switch to the low speed on position. Make sure the wiper motor spins, then turn the wiper switch OFF . The wiper motor should stop moving once it reaches the park position.

    9. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and install the wiper motor in the reverse order as removal.

Rear

  1. Make sure the wipers are in the park position. If not, turn the ignition key to the ON position and operate the wipers one time. Turn the wiper switch to the off position and then turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2.  
  3. Lift up the rear wiper pivot cover, and using a 10mm wrench, remove the rear wiper mounting nut.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark the wiper arm and the wiper pivot, then remove the wiper arm from the wiper pivot.
  6.  
  7. Remove the outer wiper pivot trim from the wiper pivot.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable 23mm wrench, loosen and remove the wiper pivot mounting nut.
  10.  
  11. Open the rear hatch glass and press in on the two wiper motor cover tabs, and remove the cover.
  12.  
  13. Detach the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  14.  
  15. Using a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the fastener that secures the motor assembly to the window lift handle and carefully remove the wiper motor and bracket assembly from the rear hatch glass.
  16.  
  17. Using a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet, remove the fasteners that secure the motor to the wiper motor bracket assembly.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. If the wiper motor is being replaced, cycle the motor one time to make sure it is in the park position. To do this proceed as follows:
    1. Before installing the wiper motor onto the linkage assembly, plug the wiper electrical connector onto the wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Carefully hold the wiper motor such that it can be operated safely and will not contact a painted surface or the rear hatch glass.
    4.  
    5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
    6.  
    7. While the ignition switch is in the ON position, turn the wiper switch to the low speed on position. Make sure the wiper motor spins, then turn the wiper switch off. The wiper motor should stop moving once it reaches the park position.

    9. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and install the wiper motor in the reverse order as removal.

Use extreme care to not overtighten the fasteners.
