Curtain Shield Airbag
3 Door

Specific to:

Toyota Yaris 2007-2010


CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in the Chassis Electrical Section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the seats.
  6.  
  7. Remove all interior trim.
  8.  
  9. Remove the headliner:
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the wiring harness clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the antenna cord from the antenna cord clamp.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the 2 connectors.
    8.  
    9. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 connectors.
    10.  
    11. Using a clip remover, remove the clip.
    12.  
    13. Disengage the 4 hooks.
    14.  
    15. Remove the roof headlining from the back door.

  11. Remove curtain shield airbag assembly:
    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, detach the airbag connector.

    5. Loosen the 2 bolts.
    6.  
    7. Disengage the 2 hooks.
    8.  
    9. Remove the 2 bolts and 4 screws.
    10.  
    11. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips and remove the curtain airbag.

  13. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the curtain shield airbag bracket.

  15. Remove roof side rail bracket:
    1. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the roof side rail bracket.

To install:

  1. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the roof side rail bracket. Tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the wire harness clamp.
  4.  
  5. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the curtain shield airbag bracket. . Tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install curtain shield airbag assembly:
    1. Tighten the 2 bolts A to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the 4 screws B.
    4.  
    5. Install front strap C.
      NOTE
      Attach double sided tape to the indicated area, with the strap pulled downward. When installing the strap, make sure that the front pillar garnish installation holes are not hidden by the strap of the curtain shield airbag.

    6.  
    7. Tighten the 2 bolts D to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Connect the airbag connector.
      NOTE
      Lock the locking button securely.

  9. To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedure.

  11. Refer to exploded illustrations for torque values.
  12.  
  13. Inspect SRS warning light.
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, and check that the SRS warning light comes on for approximately 6 seconds (primary check).
    2.  
    3. Check that the SRS warning light goes off approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the on position (constant check).

5 Door

Specific to:

Toyota Yaris 2007-2010

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the seats.
  6.  
  7. Remove all interior trim.
  8.  
  9. Remove the headliner:
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the wiring harness clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the antenna cord from the antenna cord clamp.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the 2 connectors.
    8.  
    9. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 connectors.
    10.  
    11. Using a clip remover, remove the clip.
    12.  
    13. Disengage the 4 hooks.
    14.  
    15. Remove the roof headlining from the back door.

  11. Remove curtain shield airbag assembly:
    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, detach the airbag connector.

    7. Disengage the 2 hooks.

    9. Remove the 2 bolts and 4 screws.

    11. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 clips and remove the curtain airbag.

  13. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the curtain shield airbag bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove roof side rail bracket:
    1. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the roof side rail bracket.

To install:

  1. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the roof side rail bracket. Tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the wire harness clamp.
  4.  
  5. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the curtain shield airbag bracket. . Tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install curtain shield airbag assembly:
    1. Tighten the 2 bolts A to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the 4 screws B.
    4.  
    5. Install front strap C.
      NOTE
      Attach double sided tape to the indicated area, with the strap pulled downward. When installing the strap, make sure that the front pillar garnish installation holes are not hidden by the strap of the curtain shield airbag.

    6.  
    7. Tighten the 2 bolts D to 7 ft. lbs. (9.8 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Connect the airbag connector.
      NOTE
      Lock the locking button securely.

  9. To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedure.
