Removal & Installation



Curtain Shield Airbag
Sedan

Specific to:

Toyota Yaris 2007-2010

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the seats.
  6.  
  7. Remove all interior trim.
  8.  
  9. Remove the headliner:
    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clamps.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the roof wire connector.
    4.  
    5. Using a clip remover, remove the clamp.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the antenna connector.
    8.  
    9. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips.
    10.  
    11. Disengage the 4 hooks.
    12.  
    13. Remove the roof headlining from the front door.

  11. Remove curtain shield airbag assembly:
    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, detach the airbag connector.

    5. Remove the 9 bolts, disengage the 3 hooks and remove the curtain shield airbag.
    6.

  13. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the curtain shield airbag bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove roof side rail bracket:
    1. Remove the wire harness clamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, disengage the 2 hooks and remove the roof side rail bracket.

To install:

  1. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the roof side rail bracket and tighten 2 the bolts. Tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Insert the 2 hooks into the body holes and install the curtain shield back bracket and tighten 1 the bolt.
  4.  
  5. Insert the 3 hooks into the body holes and install the curtain shield back bracket and tighten 9 the bolts. Tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the airbag connector.
  8.  
  9. To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedure.
  10.  
  11. Refer to exploded illustrations for torque values.
  12.  
  13. Inspect SRS warning light.
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, and check that the SRS warning light comes on for approximately 6 seconds (primary check).
    2.  
    3. Check that the SRS warning light goes off approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the on position (constant check).

Driver's Side

CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in the Chassis Electrical Section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  2.  
  3. Using Torx® socket wrench T30, loosen the 2 bolts completely.
  4.  
  5. Pull the steering pad toward you.
  6.  
  7. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
  8.  
  9. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, disconnect the 2 connectors.
  10.  
  11. Detach the horn terminal.
  12.  
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Pay attention to the following before installing:
    CAUTION
    Do not use a steering pad that has been dropped.

    1. Confirm that the ignition switch is turned to OFF.
    2.  
    3. Confirm that the negative battery terminal is detached.
      NOTE
      Match the color of the airbag connector with that of the steering pad assembly, and install the airbag connector.


      NOTE
      Securely lock the locking button.

  15. Inspect SRS warning light.
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, and check that the SRS warning light comes on for approximately 6 seconds (primary check).
    2.  
    3. Check that the SRS warning light goes off approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the on position (constant check).

Passenger's Side
Hatchback

CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in the Chassis Electrical Section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove front passenger airbag assembly:
    1. Remove the wire harness from the 2 claws of the instrument panel.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 10 hooks and remove the instrument panel passenger airbag.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Remove instrument panel wire assembly:
    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the instrument panel wire assembly.

  9. Remove instrument panel wire assembly:
    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the instrument panel wire assembly.

  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Pay attention to the following:
    NOTE
    Match the color of the connector of the instrument panel wire assembly with that of the connector of the front passenger assembly and install the airbag connector.


    NOTE
    Securely lock the locking button.

  13. Inspect SRS warning light.
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, and check that the SRS warning light comes on for approximately 6 seconds (primary check).

    1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the locking button.
    2.  
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the instrument panel wire assembly.

  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Pay attention to the following:
    NOTE
    Match the color of the connector of the instrument panel wire assembly with that of the connector of the front passenger assembly and install the airbag connector.


    NOTE
    Securely lock the locking button.
