Drain & Refill



Specific to:

Toyota Yaris 2007-2010

  1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF. Install a new gasket and the drain plug. Tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).

  3. Add automatic transaxle fluid. Toyota Genuine ATF WS or equivalent. Drain and refill will take 2.6 quarts.
  4.  
  5. Inspect automatic transaxle fluid:
    1. Fluid temperature: 158 to 176 °F
    2.  
    3. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
    4.  
    5. With the engine idling and the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever into all positions from P to L, and then return it to the P position.
    6.  
    7. Pull out the oil level gauge and wipe it clean.
    8.  
    9. Push it fully back into the pipe.
    10.  
    11. Pull it out and check that the fluid level is within the HOT range.
    12.  
    13. If there is any leakage, repair or replace O-rings, FIPGs, oil seals, plugs or other parts.

Specific to:

Toyota Yaris 2007-2010

  1. Remove the 19 bolts and remove the transaxle oil pan and oil pan gasket.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 oil cleaner magnets from the oil pan.

  5. Examine the particles in the pan.
    1. Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets.
    2.  
    3. Carefully look at the foreign matter and particles in the pan and on the magnets to predict the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.
    4.  
    5. Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and clutch plate wear.
    6.  
    7. Brass (non-magnetic): bearing wear.

  7. Remove valve body oil strainer assembly:
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the oil strainer assembly.
    2.  
    3. Remove the oil strainer gasket from the oil strainer.

  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  11. Coat a new O-ring with Toyota Genuine ATF WS or equivalent, and install it into the oil strainer.
  12.  
  13. Install the valve body oil strainer assembly onto the automatic transaxle with the 3 bolts. Tighten to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the 2 magnets onto the oil pan.
  16.  
  17. Install a new oil pan gasket onto the oil pan.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the 19 oil pan bolts to 69 inch lbs. (7.8 Nm).
