CAUTION
Be sure that the ignition is off if you work near the electric cooling fans or radiator grille. With the ignition on the electric cooling fans may automatically start to run if the engine coolant temperature is high and/or the air conditioning is on.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front bumper.
  6.  
  7. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  8.  
  9. For the hatchback, disengage the 6 claws and remove the radiator support absorber upper.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, remove the 2 clips and No. 1 cooler cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove hood lock assembly (w/ theft deterrent system):
    1. Separate the hood lock control cable assembly from the 2 clamps.
    2.  
    3. Separate the engine hood courtesy switch connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the hood lock assembly.
    6.

  15. Remove hood lock assembly (w/o theft deterrent system):
    1. Separate the hood lock control cable assembly from the 2 clamps.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the hood lock assembly.
    4.

  17. Remove radiator support sub-assembly upper:
    1. Separate the horn assembly connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 4 bolts and remove the radiator support sub-assembly upper.
    4.

  19. Disconnect the radiator reservoir tank hose from the water filler.
  20.  
  21. Loosen the 2 clips and remove radiator hose No. 3.
  22.  
  23. Loosen the clip and disconnect radiator hose No. 2.
  24.  
  25. Loosen the clip and disconnect the oil cooler outlet hose.
  26.  
  27. Loosen the clip and disconnect the oil cooler inlet hose.
  28.  
  29. Remove radiator assembly (w/ air conditioning system):
    1. Separate the cooling fan motor connector and wire harness clamps.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the radiator assembly from the vehicle.
      NOTE
      Do not apply excessive force to the cooler condenser assembly or piping when removing the radiator assembly.

  31. Remove radiator assembly (w/o air conditioning system):
    1. Separate the cooling fan motor connector and wire harness clamps.
    2.  
    3. Remove the radiator assembly from the vehicle.
    4.

  33. Loosen the clip and remove radiator hose No. 2.
  34.  
  35. Loosen the clip and remove the cooler outlet hose (for A/T).
  36.  
  37. Loosen the clip and remove the cooler inlet hose (for A/T).
  38.  
  39. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the fan shroud.
  40.  
  41. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  42.  
  43. Refer to the illustrations for torque values.
  44.  
  45. Add coolant and check for leaks.
