Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation

Scion tC 2007-2008

Scion xB 2008

Scion xD 2008

  1. Remove the front right side fender apron seal.
  2.  
  3. Using SST 09249-63010, or equivalent tool, loosen the V-ribbed belt tensioner arm clockwise, then remove the fan-alternator belt.
    NOTE
    Be sure to connect SST and the tools so they align using. When retracting the tensioner, turn it clockwise slowly in 3 second or more. Be sure to not apply force rapidly. After the tensioner is retracted all the way, do not apply and more force than necessary.

To install:

  1. Using the special tool, loosen the V-ribbed belt tensioner arm clockwise, then install the fan and alternator V belt.
  2.  
  3. Install the front right side fender apron seal.
