Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 nuts and the stabilizer link assemblies.
    NOTE
    If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 5mm hex wrench to hold the stud.

  5. Remove the stabilizer link assemblies.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the stabilizer link assembly, as follows:
    1. Before installing the nut, flip the ball joint stud back and Forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
    2.  
    3. Using a torque wrench, continuously turn the nut for 2 to 4 seconds per 1 turn with a torque of 8.7 inch lbs. (1 Nm) or less,, and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
    4.  
    5. Check that neither unusual drag nor rattle occurs during the rotation.
    6.  
    7. Check that neither crack nor grease leakage exists on the dust cover.
    8.

  9. Make sure that the stabilizer link is not deformed.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 stabilizer bar brackets from the rear suspension member.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 stabilizer bushings from the stabilizer bar.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the 2 stabilizer bushings to the stabilizer bar.
    NOTE
    Install the stabilizer bush rear to the outer side of the stopper ring on the stabilizer bar. Install the stabilizer bush with the protrusion facing towards the inside of the vehicle.

  3. Install the stabilizer bar and 2 rear stabilizer bar Bracket no.3 with 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear stabilizer link assembly with the 2 nuts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
    NOTE
    If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 5mm hex wrench to hold the stud.

  6.  
  7. Install rear stabilizer links.
  8.  
  9. Inspect and adjust rear wheel alignment.
  10.
