Spark Plugs

Scion xD 2008

  1. Remove the spark plugs, as outlined in this section.
  2.  
  3. Check the appearance of the spark plug for damage.

  5. Check the spark plug for any damage on its thread and/or insulator.
  6.  
  7. If there is any damage, replace the spark plug.
  8.  
  9. For 2.4L engines, following are the recommended spark plugs:
    1. Denso - SK20R11
    2.  
    3. NGK - IFR6A11
    4.

  11. For the 2.4L engine, check the electrode gap and compare with the following specifications:
    1. Standard: 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.) for a new spark plug
    2.  
    3. Maximum: 1.3 mm (0.051 in.) for a used spark plug
    4.  
    5. If the electrode gap is greater than maximum, replace the spark plug.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Scion tC 2007-2008

Scion xB 2008

Scion xD 2008

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition coils, as outlined in this section.
  6.  
  7. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the spark plugs.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the spark plugs, as outlined in this section.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Use a spark plug wrench to install and tighten the spark plugs to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition coil. Tighten the retainers to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Refer to the Ignition Coil procedure in this section for more details.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
