Brake Pad/Shoe - Rear Operation:

Pad: When the brakes are applied, the master cylinder, caliper and the caliper piston cause these replaceable friction pads to push against the rotor. Pads consist of an organic or semi-metallic material riveted or bonded to a backing plate or web.Shoe: Consists of two crescent-shaped mounts with linings riveted or glued to them. During braking of vehicle, the shoes are forced against the inside of the rotating brake drum, to slow down/stop wheel rotation, by action of the wheel cylinder or plunger assembly. On rear applications both pads and shoes may be cable actuated by application of the emergency brake.
