Perform a cylinder leakage test or compression test to determine the cause of high oil consumption.
As each piston is fitted to the rod, double-check the bearing clearances.
- Rod bearing clearance can be check by installing the rod bearings into the connecting rods and torquing the cap bolts to specifications.
- Measure the inside diameter of the bearing and the outside diameter of its crankshaft journal.
- Compute the difference between these readings, and divide it by two to obtain the oil clearance.
- An alternative to the above method is to use a plastigage.
