    Heater Core

    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



    Cirrus, Stratus, Sebring Convertible and Breeze

    See Figures 1 and 2

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2.  
    3. Remove the radio/HVAC control module bezel.
    4.  


    CAUTION
    The vehicles covered by this guide are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses air bags. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, air bag modules, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described earlier in this section.

    1. Remove the right instrument panel side trim.
    2.  
    3. Remove the two retaining screws at the lower right side support beam.
    4.  
    5. Remove the instrument panel support bolt at the A-pillar.
    6.  
    7. Remove the left instrument panel side trim and upper instrument panel bezel.
    8.  
    9. Remove the lower knee bolster and console screws at the instrument panel.
    10.  
    11. Remove the gearshift knob and shifter bezel.
    12.  
    13. Remove the mounting screws at the front and rear of the floor console. Remove the front and rear console halves.
    14.  
    15. Remove the right side instrument panel support strut.
    16.  
    17. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container, then disconnect the heater hoses at the cowl panel. Plug the heater core outlets to prevent coolant from spilling during unit housing removal.

    1. Remove the mounting screws and heater core cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the heater core from the vehicle.
    4.  

    To install:
    1. Carefully position the heater core unit into the heater housing.
    2.  
    3. Install the heater core cover onto the heater housing and tighten the mounting screws.
    4.  
    5. Install the right side instrument panel support strut.
    6.  
    7. Install the front and rear console halves.
    8.  
    9. Install the shifter bezel and gearshift knob.
    10.  
    11. Install the lower knee bolster and console screws at the instrument panel.
    12.  
    13. Install the upper instrument panel bezel and left instrument panel side trim.
    14.  
    15. Install the instrument panel support bolt at the A-pillar.
    16.  
    17. Install the two retaining screws at the lower right side support beam.
    18.  
    19. Install the right instrument panel side trim.
    20.  
    21. Install the radio/HVAC control module bezel.
    22.  
    23. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
    24.  
    25. Connect the negative battery cable.
    26.  

    Sebring Coupe and Avenger

    See Figure 3

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2.  


    CAUTION
    The vehicles covered by this guide are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses air bags. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, air bag modules, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described earlier in this section.

    1. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle, as outlined in General Information & Maintenance 0 of this repair guide.
    2.  
    3. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container, then disconnect the heater hoses from the dashboard panel. Plug the heater core outlets to prevent coolant from spilling during unit housing removal.
    4.  
    5. Remove the center stay.
    6.  
    7. Remove the lap cooler duct mounting screw. Remove the center duct.
    8.  
    9. Remove the left and right rear heater ducts.
    10.  
    11. Remove the foot distribution duct.
    12.  
    13. If equipped with A/C, remove the cooling unit mounting nut and bolt.
    14.  
    15. Remove the retainer clip, then the heater unit.
    16.  
    17. Remove the heater core.

    To install:
    1. Install the heater core into the heater housing.
    2.  
    3. Install the heater housing and retainer clip into the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. If equipped with A/C, install the cooling unit mounting bolt and nut.
    6.  
    7. Install the foot distribution duct. Install the left and right rear heater ducts.
    8.  
    9. Install the center duct, then install the lap cooler duct mounting screw.
    10.  
    11. Install the center stay and connect the heater hoses to the heater core at the dashboard panel.
    12.  
    13. Install the instrument panel.
    14.  
    15. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
    16.  
    17. Connect the negative battery cable.
    18.
