    Removal & Installation



    Front Cable
    1. Fully release the parking brake.
    2.  
    3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

    5. Loosen and lower the exhaust system and remove the heat shields.
    6.  
    7. Disengage the rear parking brake cables from the equalizer.
    8.  
    9. Lower the vehicle.
    10.  
    11. Remove the console for removal of the cable.
    12.  
    13. Route the parking brake cable and equalizer through the hole in the floor pan.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the parking brake cable and equalizer from the parking brake control and remove the parking brake cable.
    16.  

    To install:

    1. Position the parking brake cable and equalizer to the parking brake control.
    2.  
    3. Release the cable tension as follows:
      1. Press down on the pawl of the parking brake control while pulling on the parking brake cable and equalizer.
      2.  
      3. Press down hard on the pawl while releasing the tension on the cable. The cable will stay released as long as no tension is applied to the cable or as long as the parking brake control handle is not moved.

    5. Route the parking brake cable and equalizer through the hole in the floor pan.

    7. Reinstall the grommet into the opening.

    9. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

    11. Reconnect the parking brake rear cables to the equalizer.
    12.  
    13. Reinstall the heat shields and reposition the exhaust system.

    15. Lower the vehicle.
    16.  
    17. Reinstall the console.
    18.  
    19. Operate the parking brake control several times to set the parking brake adjuster.
    20.  
    21. Check the parking brake for proper operation.

    Rear Cable
    Disc Brakes
    1. Fully release the parking brake control.
    2.  
    3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the exhaust system and remove the heat shields.
    6.  
    7. Disengage the rear parking brake cable from the equalizer.
    8.  
    9. Remove the rear parking brake cable from its routing brackets.
    10.  
    11. Remove the rear parking brake cable and conduit from the rear disc brake caliper using pliers.
    12.  

    To install:

    1. Reconnect the rear parking brake cable and conduit to the rear disc brake caliper.
    2.  
    3. Position the rear parking brake cable into its routing brackets.
    4.  
    5. Attach the rear parking brake cable and conduit to the equalizer.
    6.  
    7. Reinstall the heat shields and reposition the exhaust system.
    8.  
    9. Lower the vehicle.
    10.  
    11. Operate the parking brake control several times to adjust the parking brake cable tension.
    12.  
    13. Check the parking brake for proper operation.
    14.  

    Drum Brakes
    1. Fully release the parking brake control.
    2.  
    3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the exhaust system and remove the heat shields.
    6.  
    7. Disengage the rear parking brake cable to be removed from the equalizer.
    8.  
    9. Remove the rear parking brake cable from its routing brackets.
    10.  
    11. Remove the rear wheel of the cable being serviced.
    12.  
    13. Remove the brake drum to gain access to the parking brake cable anchor.
    14.  
    15. Disengage the cable end from the parking brake cable anchor (parking brake lever).
    16.  
    17. Press the prongs on the cable conduit attaching the cable to the backing plate using the box end of a 1 / 2 inch wrench.
    18.  
    19. With the prongs compressed, pull the cable and conduit out of the backing plate and remove the cable.
    20.  

    To install:

    1. Push the new cable end for the brake side into the backing plate until the prongs on the conduit are fully seated.
    2.  
    3. Reconnect the rear parking brake cable to the parking brake cable anchor (parking brake lever).
    4.  
    5. Reinstall the brake drum.
    6.  
    7. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts to 62 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Reinstall the rear parking brake cable into its routing brackets.
    10.  
    11. Reconnect the parking brake cable to the equalizer.
    12.  
    13. Reinstall the heat shields and reposition the exhaust system.
    14.  
    15. Lower the vehicle.
    16.  
    17. Operate the parking brake control several times to adjust the parking brake cable tension.
    18.  
    19. Check the parking brake for proper operation.
