2.0L Engines



  1. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    NOTE
    Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan.

  5. Disconnect the power steering pressure line.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower power steering pump bolts.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering low pressure hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts and the power steering pump.
  16.  
  17. Using Power Steering Pump Pulley Removal Tool 211-016 (T69-10300-B), or equivalent special tool, remove the power steering pump pulley.

To install:


WARNING
Install a new power steering pump pulley after the second removal and installation.

  1. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are two paint marks, install a new pulley. If there is no paint or one paint mark, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub. Using Pump Pulley Replacer 211-185 (T91P-3A733-A), or equivalent special tool, install the power steering pump pulley.

  3. Using Teflon® Seal Replacer Set 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose fitting:
    1. Remove and discard the original seal.
    2.  
    3. Stretch the seal over the seal replacer and slide it onto the tube nut.

  5. Position the power steering pump and install the upper bolts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the power steering low pressure hose.
  8.  
  9. Position the power steering pressure line bracket and install the bolt. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Raise the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Install the lower power steering pump bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the power steering pressure line and tighten the fitting to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Connect the electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Install the drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Fill and leak check the power steering system.

2.3L Engine




WARNING
While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.

  1. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch electrical connector.
    NOTE
    Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan.

  4.  
  5. Disconnect the power steering pressure line fitting nut from the power steering pump.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 lower power steering pump bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket nut and position the pressure line aside.
  10.  
  11. Release the clamp and disconnect the suction hose from the power steering pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 upper power steering pump bolts and remove the power steering pump.
  14.  
  15. If necessary, use Power Steering Pump Pulley Removal tool 211-016 (T69-10300B), or equivalent, to remove the steering pump pulley.
  16.  

To install:


WARNING
Install a new power steering pump pulley after the second removal and installation. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are no paint marks, or one paint mark, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub. Using Pump Pulley Replacer 211-185 (T91P-3A733-A), or equivalent special tool, install the power steering pump pulley.

  1. Using Teflon® Seal Replacer Set 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose fitting:
    1. Remove and discard the original seal.
    2.  
    3. Stretch the seal over the seal replacer and slide it onto the tube nut.

  3. Position the power steering pump and install the upper bolts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  5. Connect the power steering suction hose and clamp.
  6.  
  7. Position the power steering pressure line bracket and install the nut. Tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower power steering bolts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the power steering line fitting nut. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the power steering pressure switch electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the drive belt.
  18.  
  19. Fill and leak check the power steering system.
  20.  

3.0L Engine



  1. Remove the nut and the ground strap.
  2.  
  3. Using 3-Bar Engine Support Kit 303-F072 and Engine Lifting Bracket 303-050 (T70P-6000), or equivalent the special tools, support the engine.

  5. Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt and the power steering pump pulley.
    NOTE
    Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan.

  11. Disconnect the power steering low pressure hose.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose and position aside:
    1. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the power steering pressure line and position aside.

  15. Remove the upper engine insulator bracket bolt.

  17. Remove the A/C line support nut.
    NOTE
    The engine isolator bracket is shown removed for clarity.

  19. Remove the nut, then remove the bolt and the engine insulator.

  21. Remove the power steering pump bracket, as follows:
    1. Remove the pressure line bracket screw.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 6 nuts.
    4.  
    5. Remove 5 bolts and the power steering pump bracket.
    6.

  23. Remove the power steering pump.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Position the power steering pump.
  2.  
  3. Install the power steering pump bracket, as follows:
    1. Install the 5 bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)..
    2.  
    3. Install the 6 nuts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the pressure line bracket screw.
      NOTE
      The engine isolator bracket is shown removed for clarity.

  5. Install the engine insulator. Tighten the bolts and nut to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).

  7. Install the upper engine insulator bracket bolt and tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Position the A/C line support and install the nut. Tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Using Teflon® Seal Replacer Set 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent the special tool, install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose fitting:
    1. Remove and discard the original seal.
    2.  
    3. Stretch the seal over the seal replacer and slide it onto the tube nut.

  13. Connect the power steering pressure hose, as follows:
    1. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the pump. Tighten the fitting to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Connect the electrical connector.
    4.  
    5. Install the power steering pressure line bracket bolt and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  15. Connect the power steering low pressure hose.
  16.  
  17. Install the power steering pump pulley and bolt.
  18.  
  19. Install the drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Tighten the power steering pump pulley bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).

  23. Remove the special tools.
  24.  
  25. Position the ground strap and install the nut. Tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Fill and leak check the power steering system.
