    2001-02 Models
    1. Remove the negative battery cable.
    2.  
    3. Place a suitable container/catch pan under the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the adjusting bolt.
    6.  
    7. Break loose the mounting bolts and nuts and remove the power steering belt, or release the tension from the belt auto tensioner and remove the serpentine drive belt.
    8.  
    9. Cover the A/C compressor for Accord or alternator for Prelude, with shop rags to prevent any fluid from spilling into it.
      NOTE
      Spilling power steering fluid into the alternator assembly can damage the unit.

    10.  
    11. Detach the pump inlet and outlet hoses, then plug them to avoid getting debris in the system.
      NOTE
      Power steering fluid will destroy your vehicle-s paint. Use caution and clean up all spills immediately.

    12.  
    13. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts, then pull the pump from the vehicle.
      WARNING
      On Prelude models, do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

    14.  
    15. Cover the open ends of the pump, with tape, to prevent foreign material from entering the openings.
    16.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps and specifications.
    2.  
    3. Please refer to the following fastener tightening specifications:

      Power steering pump mounting bolt(s): 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm)
       
      Power steering pump outlet hose fasteners: 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)
       
      Power steering pump mounting nut: 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm)
       

    4.  
    5. Make note of the following points:
      NOTE
      Always follow the belt manufacturers tension recommendation if you are not using a genuine Honda belt.


      WARNING
      Substituting another brand may damage internal components.



      Make sure all fasteners, hose clamps and fittings are properly installed and tightened.
       
      If equipped with a power steering v-belt, properly adjust the belt tension. For more information, refer to the Engine Mechanical Section.
       



      When topping off the system use only Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid.
       



      Clean any spilled fluid before starting the vehicle.
       
      Bleed the system and top off as necessary.

    6.  

    2003-06 2.4L Engine
    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.  
    5. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.
    6.  
    7. Remove the pump mounting bolts (B).
    8.  
    9. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (C) and pump outlet hose (D) from the pump (E), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
    10.  
    11. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump inlet hose and the pump outlet hose onto the new pump with the new O-ring (F).
    2.  
    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.
    4.  
    5. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    6.  
    7. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    8.  
    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system, as outlined in this section.
    10.  

    2003-06 3.0L Engine
    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.  
    5. Remove the side engine mount bracket (A).

    7. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.
    8.  
    9. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (B) and pump outlet hose (C) from the pump (D), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.     11. Remove the pump mounting bolts (E).

    To install:

    3. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque.

    5. Install the drive belt. Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.

    7. Install the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system as outlined in this section.

    Civic



    2001-05 Models
    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.  
    5. Remove the power steering pump belt (A) by loosening the adjusting bolt (B), pump mounting nut (C), and pump locknut (D).
    6.  
    7. Cover the A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect it from spilled power steering fluid.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (E) and pump outlet hose (F) from the pump (G), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.
    10.  
    11. Remove the adjusting bolt, pump mounting bolt (H), pump mounting nut, pump locknut, and lock bolt (I), then remove the pump from the pump bracket. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
    12.  
    13. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump inlet hose and pump outlet hose. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
    2.  
    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolt and lock bolt.
    4.  
    5. Install the power steering pump belt. Make sure that the power steering pump belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the power steering pump belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    6.  
    7. Adjust the power steering pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
    8.  
    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.
    10.  

    2006 Models
    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.  
    5. Remove the cowl cover and under-cowl panel.
    6.  
    7. Remove the air cleaner.
    8.  
    9. Remove the front splash shield.
    10.  
    11. If equipped with a manual transaxle, remove the shift cable bracket.
    12.  
    13. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, disconnect the shift cable from the control lever.
    14.  
    15. Remove the upper torque rod (A) from the body.

    17. Remove the drive belt from the pump pulley.
    18.  
    19. Cover the parts around the power steering pump with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid.
    20.  
    21. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (B) and pump outlet hose (C) from the pump (D), and plug them.
      WARNING
      Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or any parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

    22.  
    23. Remove the pump outlet hose O-ring (E), and discard it.
    24.  
    25. Remove the pump mounting bolts (F).
    26.  
    27. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    To install:

    1. Move the power steering pump toward the driver's side, then raise it.
    2.  
    3. Connect the pump inlet hose and pump outlet hose onto the new pump with new O-ring.
    4.  
    5. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque shown in the accompanying illustration.
    8.  
    9. Install the drive belt. Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on any parts around the power steering pump, drive belt, or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    10.  
    11. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system.
