    CAUTION
    Read the air bag service precautions inChapter 6prior to doing work involving an air bag equipped steering column component. Always wear safety glasses when servicing an air bag vehicle and handling the air bag to avoid possible injury.

    Except F-Super Duty Stripped Chassis and Motor Home Chassis

    1. Set the parking brake.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    4.  
    5. Unbolt the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the shift linkage rod(s) from the column.
    8.  
    9. Remove the steering wheel.
    10.  

    If you have a tilt column, the steering wheel MUST be in the full UP position when it is removed.

    1. Remove the floor cover screws at the base of the column.
    2.  
    3. Remove the steering column shroud by placing the bottom screw in the No.1 position and pulling the shroud up and away from the column.
    4.  
    5. On automatics, remove the shift indicator cable.
    6.  
    7. Remove the instrument panel column opening cover.
    8.  
    9. Remove the bolts securing the column support bracket to the pedal support bracket.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the turn signal/hazard warning harness and the ignition switch harness.
    12.  
    13. Lift the column from the truck.
    14.  
    15. Remove the column support bracket
    16.  

    To install:
    1. Install the column support bracket making sure that the wiring is outboard of the column. Tighten the nuts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Start the floor cover clamp bolt and press the plate until the clamp flats touch the stops on the column outer tube.
    4.  
    5. Install the column through the floor opening.
    6.  
    7. Connect the turn signal/hazard warning and ignition harnesses.
    8.  
    9. Raise the column and install the 2 support bolts.
    10.  
    11. Tighten the floor cover bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Tighten the support bracket bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
    14.  
    15. Tighten the cover plate clamp bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
    16.  
    17. Install and adjust the shift indicator cable, on automatics.
    18.  
    19. Install the instrument panel column opening cover.
    20.  
    21. Install the column shroud.
    22.  
    23. Tighten the shroud bottom screw to 15 inch lbs. (1.7 Nm).
    24.  
    25. Connect the shifter rod(s).
    26.  
    27. Connect the intermediate shaft. Tighten the bolt to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).

    F-Super Duty Stripped Chassis Motor Home Chassis

    1. Set the parking brake.

    3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    4.  
    5. Unbolt the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
    6.  
    7. On trucks with automatic transmission, disconnect the shift linkage rod(s) from the column.
    8.  
    9. Remove the steering wheel.
    10.  

    If you have a tilt column, the steering wheel MUST be in the full UP position when it is removed.

    1. Disconnect the turn signal/hazard warning harness and the ignition switch and horn harnesses.
    2.  
    3. Remove the floor cover screws at the base of the column.
    4.  
    5. Remove the column-to-support bracket bolts and lift the column from the truck.
    6.  

    To install:
    1. Install the column through the floor opening.
    2.  
    3. Connect the wiring harnesses.
    4.  
    5. Raise the column and install the 2 support bolts.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the column-to-support bracket bolts to 19-27 ft. lbs. (26-37 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Connect the intermediate shaft. Tighten the bolt to 20-35 ft. lbs. (27-47 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Tighten the floor cover bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Connect the shifter rod(s).
    14.  
    15. Install the steering wheel.
