    Rear Window Wiper/Washer Systems

    Removal & Installation



    Wiper Motor
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
    4.  
    5. Remove the rear wiper arm nut cap.
    6.  
    7. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut.
    8.  
    9. Use a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arm from the wiper pivot.
    10.  
    11. Remove the liftgate trim panel.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the harness connector.
    14.  
    15. Remove the 3 machine screws to the rear wiper motor and remove from the vehicle.
      WARNING
      Use extreme care when taking out motor. Damage to the grommet and or window can occur.

    To install:


    NOTE
    Before installation activate the wiper system to ensure the wiper module is in the PARK position.

    1. Position the wiper arm so that the tip of the blade is on the park line on the glass.
      NOTE
      When servicing the rear wiper motor, replace all three rubber well-nuts.

    3. Install the 3 bolts to the rear wiper motor. Torque screws to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).

    5. Connect the harness connector.
    6.  
    7. Install the liftgate trim panel.
    8.  
    9. Install the arm on the pivot.
    10.  
    11. Install the wiper arm retaining nut and torque to 160-175 inch lbs. (18-20 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Install the rear wiper arm nut cap.
    14.  
    15. Connect the battery negative cable.

    Wiper Washer
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Open hood.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
    6.  
    7. Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755), or equivalent, gently pry up on the wiper arm nut cap and remove.
    8.  
    9. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut.
    10.  
    11. Remove the arm from the pivot using a rocking motion while the arm is in an over/centered position.
    12.  
    13. Remove the right cowl cover.
      1. Remove the rear engine compartment seal at the cowl.
      2.  
      3. Remove the 4 push retainers to the right side cowl cover and remove from vehicle.
      4.

    15. Remove 3 reservoir retaining screws.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the pump wire connector.
    18.  
    19. Disconnect the washer hose connections.
    20.  
    21. Lift the washer reservoir out of the cowl area and drain into a bucket.
    22.  
    23. Remove the plastic strap from around the pump.
    24.  
    25. Gently pry the pump away from the reservoir and out of the grommet. Care must be taken not to puncture the reservoir.
    26.  
    27. Remove the rubber grommet from the reservoir.

      Fig. Remove the 3 reservoir retaining screws, disconnect the pump wire connector, and disconnect the washer hose connections. Lift the washer reservoir out of the cowl area

    To install:


    NOTE
    A new grommet must be used every time the pump is removed/installed from the reservoir to prevent possible leaks in the future.

    1. Install a new grommet into the reservoir.
    2.  
    3. Insert the pump into the pump grommet.
    4.  
    5. Place the plastic strap over the pump assembly and firmly snap it into the reservoir.
      NOTE
      The washer hose with the white stripe goes on the white side of the pump and the black hose on the black side of the pump.

    7. Place the reservoir into the cowl area and connect the washer hoses.
    8.  
    9. Connect the pump wire connector.
    10.  
    11. Install the 3 reservoir retaining screws. Torque the screws to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Install the right cowl cover.
      1. Place the right side cowl cover into position and install the 4 push retainers.
      2.  
      3. Install the rear engine compartment seal at the cowl.
      4.  

    14.  
    15. Before installation of the front wiper arms, activate the wiper system to ensure the front wiper module is in the PARK position. Position the wiper arms so that the tip of the driver's blade and the middle of the passenger's blade are on the park line on the windshield.
    16.  
    17. Place the arm on the pivot while the arm is in an over/centered position.
    18.  
    19. Install the wiper arm retaining nut and torque to 16 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).

    21. Install the wiper arm nut cap.
    22.  
    23. Connect the battery negative cable.
    24.  
    25. Verify vehicle and system operation.
