6 Months, 3 Power Steering Pumps? Steer clear of this pump!

    2011 Chevy Impala LT 3.5L - 170k+ miles

Pump #1. Loud whine upon install, returned to Autozone same day.

Pump #2. Whine was better, but still whining. Fed up with doing the same job twice in a day, I decided to keep it. 6 months later, grinding noise with whine coming from pump, steering starts to fail. No fluid loss. Before I knew it, my belt ripped to shreds, (except for one piece) in one of the worst neighborhoods of the city.

Pump #3. Power Steering pump has loud whine, power steering completely gone.

I asked for a second opinion, nothing was deemed wrong with the power steering system. It all pointed back to the power steering pump. I was advised to try a different brand.

Decided to go to the junk yard at this point and try my luck there. Sure enough, as soon as I installed the junk yard pump (half the price with pulley attached), the power steering immediately came back online, and works like a charm. There is not even the slightest of whine's.

I decided to wait to write this review after a month of installing the junk yard pump. It still works as it should.

In conclusion. This pump is totally not worth it. Its probably best to buy the OEM (new) version of this product. To be fair, the car had 170,000 miles when the original pump failed. I went to the junk yard since the pump is special order and I needed to drive the car back on the road ASAP. If you go the junk yard route, be sure to run power steering fluid in there until the color is the same coming out as going in.

Pros: Become a pro at installing power steering pumps, Easy return policy.

Cons: Pump failure can shreds your serpentine belt, leaves you stranded
