Waste of time, whined worse than the one I took out...

Anyone who knows this job on a Silverado HD, knows it isn't fun... You are accessing nuts and bolts in hard to reach positions... To have done all that only to refill and bleed and have it make more noise than the original pump with 200K miles on it...pitiful. Heaven forbid you are paying someone shop rates to do this, then have to pay them again. It will cost you 3x the price of the pump...

Pros: Had a nice coat of cheap black paint on it...

Cons: Made more noise than the leaky one I was replacing

    Very dissapointed in this pump

I was really excited to get a new pump for my truck. I replaced the old one with this one. Got everything back together and filled with power steering fluid. I got the air out of the lines, took the truck out for a drive and this pump whined worse than the old one did. I was sorely tempted to put the old one back in. If it didn't leak i would have. Now I have to do this all over again, only with a pump from somewhere else. To bad you can't do negative stars

Pros: The pump seemed to fil well. All of the hoses went were they were supposed to.

Cons: After the installation is completed the pump is whining worse than the one I removed.

    Power steering pump blues

1 of 1 people found this helpful

After 185,000 miles, it was time to replace my power steering pump. Ordered the pump via Autozone online and had the part shipped to my house along with parts to do some brake maintenance. The free shipping was great and I also received 20% off for ordering online.
For my truck, the pump R & R was a PITA (about a 6 on a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being easiest). Had to remove the fan shrouds, serpentine belt, alternator mount bracket to get the power steerig pump off. The new pump did not come with the mounting studs on the back of it. I had to reuse the old ones. (This was the "not as picture shows") Removing the old ones can be a pain as the surface area (nut) for the wrench is small and your wrench or socket slips off easily.
    Overall, I recommend this pump.

    Pros: Great value

    Cons: not as picture shows
