Good Value but Not as Good as New

First of all buying this pump and installing it myself saved me about $400. If you are not at least an intermediate level mechanic you may find doing this job a little challenging. I am an ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Mechanic and if you don't have the proper tools you will not be able to do this job properly. You will need a good vise, a torque wrench, metric combo wrench set and a 19 mm socket in 1/2 inch drive. You will need a 1/2 breaker bar or Strong 1/2 drive Ratchet with a cheater bar (steel pipe). You will need to either buy the Honda tool or make or improvise a way to hold the power steering (P/S) pulley still while you loosen the 19mm nut on your old pump. I was able to use two large pry bars with equal pressure on at least two points on the pulley spokes. The pulley can break so be careful! Honda lists the pulley for about $30. That nut is on the pump very, very tight! Once the nut is loose the pulley came right off (no puller required). It will need to go back on at 47 foot lbs. Mine was on there a lot tighter than that! Since I already had most of what I needed I didn't check with Autozone but I am sure they should have most of what you will need tool wise. You will also need to clean out the screen in your P/S reservoir. Buy at least 1-1/2 quarts of Honda (only Honda fluid!) spec P/S fluid (Autozone has this fluid as well) to flush out rest of your system after the pump is installed. The directions were quite good on this procedure. As far as removing the pump you will need to get a manual if you want the step by step procedure. My opinion but you don't really need it. No hidden bolts anywhere. You will also need to jack up the front of your vehicle so you can working the steering to properly bleed the air out of the system. With all that said changing the actual pump was easy. The Serpentine belt must come off. Then there was just two of everything; two bolts (16 ft. lbs torque) mounting it to the engine, two 10mm bolts (light torque 8 ft. lbs) to the pressure hose and two hose clamps. The pump has a slight vibration in it (this is not a brand new pump and probably not balanced) in it under a load but other wise the noise and pulley wobble from my old pump is gone! Oh yeah, the pump came painted. Some of which I had to remove off the pressure hose side outlet to make sure no paint got into the system. It took me just over 3 hours part of which was looking for my makeshift pulley holding tool. I am happy about saving $400 in one afternoon!

Pros: Functions as Advertised, Good Price & Warranty

    Cons: Too Much Paint
