Suspected OEM alternator was bad or going bad. Never had any service lights indicating an issue. When truck wouldn't start on it's own but would with a jump then figured out it must be the alternator. Coils on original were deep blue which indicates excessive electrical heat. Got it home, took it off, and had local store check it. Failed test. The Duralast Gold higher amperage (145) was cheaper than the standard 105 amps. Used a 20% discount to purchase the 145 amp alternator. New alternator bolted right in but the slightly larger diameter made getting the serpentine belt on harder. Had to put the alternator on without mounting bolts and the pry the inside of alternator up to get the bolt started and then do the same for the outside bolt. Not ideal but it worked. Not sure if this issue is the same for the other alternators. Charged the battery for an hour just to get it started and then drove for about 10 miles. Voltage gauge settled down to a normal level and it was pretty much fully charged by the time I got home. Seems to be an excellent product. Hopefully this will help make batteries last longer. Always seem to have a good experience with most Duralast products.

Ease of Install

I installed this alternator on my 05 Tahoe last week. It installed in less than ten minutes with one wrench and a ratchet. It seems to charge the system well and I’ve had zero issues with any overload. For the price, compared to other brands, it’s a good deal.
