03 Escape overcharge fixed

Jonas

The 2001-04 Ford Escape 3.0L are notorious for overcharging 15+volts and undercharging/parasitic leaking. 1. If your Escape is charging at 15+ volts contently or you can't find the reason your battery dies overnight, your crank seal is leaking, the oil made it's way into the wingdings and it's likely that the alternator rectifier is bad and bench testing won't tell you that. 2. Pull alternator from the firewall, no need to pull suspension apart. It will come out the firewall if you take 10min to pull off the black vacuum tank and move a couple intake hoses and move throttle cable. 3. The top bolt of the alternator can be easily taken off with 2 lonnnng extensions and use them by the exhaust hanger to reach up. 4. If your crank seal is leaking, change it. You can rent all the tools to do it.

No issues for my 2006 ford escape. Runs great at 14.3 volts. Was a bugger of a job to replace due to droping the axle shaft and such but it is up and charging now!
