About
Honda Civic Alternator

Your car has electrical components with high demands for power, and a Honda Civic alternator generates electricity that' both the source of energy for those systems and recharges the battery. If you're having difficulty starting your car or noticing electrical issues, it could be a problem with the alternator. Restore your car's function with a replacement alternator, and AutoZone has What It Takes To Do The Job Right including Honda Civic alternators and charging system parts.

How an Alternator Works

Every car has an alternator under the hood that's connected to the crankshaft pulley by a belt. As the belt rotates, the alternator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy with magnets spinning around a coil. A power is generated, it's either stored in the battery so there's enough energy to start the engine or it's consumed by the devices inside your car like the lights, window motors, audio system, and more.

Symptoms of a Failing Alternator

For some vehicles, the alternator will last the vehicle's full lifetime. However, unexpected failures can occur that require a repair or replacement. Symptoms can include an illuminated battery light on the dash, excessively dim or bright lights, electrical systems that operate slowly or malfunction, or a dead battery. You may also notice a rumbling or whining noise under the hood, a burning smell, or your car can stall.

Honda Civic Alternator Replacement Cost

If you need to replace an alternator, Honda Civic models are commonly straightforward and a job novice DIYers can tackle. Only the alternator designed for your car should be used, otherwise it may not function properly for your car. Depending on the car you drive, an alternator can range from under $30 to more than $350, plus you should consider replacing the belt at the same time.

At AutoZone, filter your search results by year, make, model, and engine size to see Honda Civic batteries and starters that fit perfectly from brands like Bosch and Duralast. Get the job done quickly with options like Same-Day In-Store or Curbside Pickup or Free Next-Day Delivery.

I liked how this product fit correctly. I have occasionally had to install parts that were just a little off when they weren’t OEM. But this was great! So far no issues and installation was a breeze

Got the call you hate to hear from your kid. Car broke down and won't start. After a jump start and hooking up a multimeter to determine the alternator indeed needed replacing. I quickly looked up a replacement from my trusted auto parts store as well as a Youtube video on the difficulty the job would entail. The replacement was an excellent fit and with a quick swap of some brackets the new one was installed in no time.
