      About

      2001 Honda Civic Alternator

The 2001 Honda Civic alternator replenishes the energy a battery uses to start your engine and provides constant power to your car's systems while the engine is running. If the alternator isn't working at its best, your car may not start of the some of its functions could quit working. It's more common to replace this part than repair it, and AutoZone carries 2001 Honda Civic alternators and charging system tools to do the job right.

      What Does an Alternator Do?

For all cars, the alternator generates an electrical current. The rotating crankshaft pulley turns a belt that spins the alternator, and magnets inside turn around a coil to create an electrical field. It's converted into a DC current that your car's electrical systems can use, and surplus power is stored in the battery as a reserve so your car can start the next time you need it.

      Signs of a Faulty Alternator

As a car ages, it's increasingly likely the alternator can quit on you. If that happens, symptoms become clear and can include dim lights, squealing or whining under the hood, the smell of burnt rubber, or the battery light can illuminate on the dash. A bad alternator won't charge the battery or supply power, so your Civic may stall while driving or it won't start at all.

How to Replace a 2001 Honda Civic Alternator

The alternator for 2001 Honda Civic models is a simple job compared to other more complex vehicles. After loosening the belt tensioner and taking off the serpentine belt, disconnect the wiring and unbolt the alternator. Install the new alternator and connect it, making sure to replace the belt if it's showing signs of wear.

When you need parts for your car including 2001 Honda Civic batteries and starters, filter AutoZone results by year, make, model, and engine size to see only the parts that fit your car. It worked fine for a couple of days, it would stop charging as soon as I put a load on the engine, took it back to the store and updated it to a new one (DLG12308).
