How to Replace a Kia Optima Alternator
Remove the cable off the negative battery terminal before working on your Kia Optima alternator. You can now take the belt off of the alternator pulley using the tensioner. The bolts holding the alternator in place are in hard-to-reach areas. With these bolts removed, you might need to use a pry bar to slide the old Kia Optima alternator out of place. Bought this to replace failed alternator in 2006 Kia optima (worst install location and procedure ever). The alternator itself is Great. Fit like a glove and works like a champ. Easy core return and great product. Beware: the alternator itself is great! Install varies by vehicle and engine compartment. The 2000-06 Kia optima and Hyundai sonata with the 3L engines require 1) support engine on Jack and remove motor mount, 2) removal of passenger side axle half shaft, 3) lifting the engine about 6" in order to get the alternator out, 4) bottom bolt of alternator is a u channel and the old alternator is to be pryed off after loosening the bolt and removing the nut. Do not try to remove the bolt in order to get alternator out. Good luck!
