    About Chevrolet Cruze Timing Belt

The timing belt is a vital part of your Chevy Cruze, as it connects the crankshaft to the camshaft, allowing the engine components to move together. As your car's crankshaft rotates, which is what puts your car in motion, the timing belt moves the camshaft, which controls the intake and exhaust valves in the engine. If the timing belt breaks, the camshaft will be unable to open the intake valves at the correct time, which can cause a collision in the engine with the cylinder, leading to serious damage. To keep this from happening you'll want to replace your timing belt before it falls apart, and you can find options from reputable brands at AutoZone.

When Should the Timing Belt Be Changed on a Chevy Cruze?

A timing belt should be changed before it breaks, as a broken belt can cause severe engine damage. In general, most timing belts need to be replaced somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, and some modern cars can go even longer. The life of the timing belt depends on the year, make, model, and engine size, so consult your car's owner's manual to find the maintenance schedule for the timing belt.

    Timing Belt Replacement Cost

The cost of a timing belt replacement depends on the type of car that you have, as well as the mechanic. Usually, they cost around $500 for parts and labor, but they can be cheaper or even run into the thousands. If you choose to do the replacement yourself, you can buy a new timing belt for a Chevy Cruze for under $100.

At AutoZone, you can find timing belts and the tools to replace them with Same-Day In-Store or Curbside Pickup. Free Next-Day Delivery is also available on eligible orders.

The original gasket was metal. The replacement is a paper gasket and is difficult to install. Plus, you will need to put a jack under the engine as the motor mount will need to be removed, as well as the air intake/filter housing and ducting. The bolts are like a reverse Torx design for some reason. I'm not sure why there was a need to use something different than a normal hexagonal head.
