Don’t get stranded because a dead battery caught you off guard. Get back on the road fast with a set of jumper cables from AutoZone. We carry a variety of booster cable sets with heavy duty clamps that fit post and side post batteries, and tangle-free cables that stay flexible in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. We even carry cables with a built-in voltmeter to display battery voltage and alert you if the cables have been incorrectly hooked up in reverse order.

If your car has a dead battery, jumper cables and a car with a good battery are all you need to get back on the road. Also known as battery booster cables, these cables connect the battery terminals between two vehicles, allowing the vehicle with a charged battery to charge the other vehicle.

Before you start, make sure both vehicles are in park or neutral with the ignition switch in the off position. All you need to do to set the cars up for a jump start is connect one black clamp to the negative post of the dead battery and the other to the good batteries’ negative terminal and connect the red clamps to the positive posts. Start the vehicle with a working battery and run the engine. After a few minutes, turn your ignition switch to start the car. Leave the cars running when you disconnect the cables. You’ll want to drive your car around for 15 minutes or so after jumping to give your alternator time to recharge the battery. If the car still won’t start, you may need a new car battery.

Facing starting trouble with your vehicle? Turn to AutoZone. We have everything you need to get your car back on the road. Get your parts fast with options for free next day delivery and same day in-store pick up or ask an AutoZoner at your local store which cables are right for you.
