What Car Does Adam LZ Drive?

Competitive BMX rider, YouTube influencer, and now professional Formula DRIFT driver. It’s safe to say that Adam LZ loves living life in the spotlight. Whipping his car around a track with tires spinning and smoke billowing behind is a career every gearhead would love a crack at, and it’s even more impressive with the car Adam LZ drives.

For the 2022 season, Adam LZ is piloting a Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5D, a monster that makes nearly 1,200 horsepower. What was his first car, and what other cars does Adam LZ own and drive? Here’s what you want to know.

Taking home the title of Rookie of the Year in the 2020 Formula DRIFT PRO season definitely got Adam noticed. His achievements included a top four event finish as well as a finish in the top eight finish while swinging around his Enjuku Racking Nissan S15, and also took home the Fan Favorite award.

But in 2022, RTR Motorsports scouted the up-and-comer. And in joining the team, his set of wheels got a serious upgrade to a mean, muscular 2022 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5D competition car.

About the Mustang RTR Spec 5D

Adam’s new Formula DRIFT Ford Mustang started as a fresh-from-the-showroom GT Premium trim, but it did not stay that way. The RTR team added an incredible amount of time and equipment to turn it into a track-ready drift car. It started with performance, adding their new Spec 5 gear like a Ford Performance Supercharger, RTR Aero 7 forged wheels, and some fat RTR flares. Of course, the RTR grille, LED lights, and other front fascia gear were added while the work was being done.

Since factory suspension isn’t ideal for drifting, all new RTR Tactical coilover struts and front and rear sway bars were installed to keep the Mustang tight to the ground while letting it slip all around the paved track.

To keep the air flowing freely, an MBRP exhaust system was installed. The Adam LZ Mustang has a Pro Series cat-back exhaust with an x-pipe that deletes the resonators. If you get close enough, you’ll see carbon fiber tips poking out from the rear bumper.

What’s Under the Hood?

You know about the Ford Performance Supercharger, but the engine build includes much more. The car has a 455 cubic-inch Rouch Yates RY45 V8 tucked between the inner fenders. It’s been upgraded from the stock internals to Mahle components that can withstand the constant high RPMs and high-torque revving.

Because a massive V8 that’s supercharged doesn’t quite get you to Formula DRIFT PRO levels of power, his RTR Mustang also includes a Holley Nitrous Oxide system. With the bottle, his car gets power in the range of 1,200 ponies.

AutoZone is the main sponsor for the #5 car, and you’ll find some of the top names from AutoZone in the car too. The battery is an OPTIMA Yellow Top, the spark plugs are from NGK, and Pennzoil fluids are used to lubricate, cool, and protect the engine, transmission, and more.

What Cars Does Adam LZ Own?

If you walk through the LZ compound, you’ll find cars in garages all over the place. Some are his teammates’, others belong to his friends, but many belong to Adam LZ. We aren’t talking just a few cars, but well over a dozen that he owns. He loves BMW models, and that’s on display with a bunch of M3s speckled throughout the collection. There’s also a BMW 335i that packs a punch with more than 750 wheel horsepower.

But that’s far from all he owns. As a true, in-his-blood car lover, Adam owns a lot of luxury and high-performance cars like a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, more than one Nissan GT-R, and a Mustang GT-350.

JDM vehicles aren’t strangers to his garage either. Adam LZ’s car collection includes a Nissan 350Z and a Toyota Chaser JZX100 that are both known as drift missiles – JDM-spec cars meant to take an absolute thrashing in drifting practice.

Even pickup trucks aren’t foreign for Adam. A lifted Ford F-350 is a truck he owns that you’ll find towing trailers and hauling cargo and people around.

Adam LZ’s First Car

The first car Adam LZ bought and owned was a BMW E46 325i, a four-door sedan with an automatic transmission. While it wasn’t the car that made him famous, it obviously held a special place in his heart. Years after selling it, Adam bought it back early in 2022 and plans to restore it, customize it, or do something completely ridiculous with it. We’ll have to see what it ends up like.

First Drift Car

The car Adam built for drifting, learned how to drift in, and used for his debut season with Formula DRIFT is a 1990 Nissan 240SX. The SR20DET engine has been jacked with a Garrett turbo, upgraded injectors, and plenty of other additions to push more than 300 horsepower to the wheels. He built it right, using custom spec BC racing coilovers and Brembo brakes, and much more.
