Castrol Euro 0w-xx: get it while you can
MARK A11 days agoVerified PurchaseRecommendedI have been a fan of Castrol 0w30 (or 40) Euro oils for Subaru EJ25 turbo motor. No reason they wouldn’t be good for older non-turbo too. Look for A3/B4 rating. Newer F-series motors may need different oil, don’t know. From what I’ve read, the 0w30 has (or at least had) significant amount of group IV (PAO) base oil. 0w40 supposedly has less PAO, but still fair amount. These oils used to be made in Germany, and/or Belgium. Now, made in USA, of imported materials, so not sure they are still “better than most.” Thicker than 99.9% of USA API 5w-30’s, which Subaru still clings to recommending, when they aren’t recommending 0w-20. Indie shops are recommending Motul or Liqui-Moly nowadays at $$$, and typically 5w-40 for the EJ turbo motors. Other $$$ options are Amsoil or HPL, no experience with them in this engine, but would go Euro or xW-40 in those brands too. Also Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 (Euro) ought to do well, but, no personal experience. M1 euro 0w40 also an option. I tried Quaker State Euro once, not as impressed. Shell quit rating their Rotella T6 for gas engines years ago, so don’t know what that means, but not at top of my list, nor on local shops’ lists anymore.Purchased for: 2007 Subaru OutbackHelpful?
